Most dog owners feel guilty leaving their dogs home alone.
Even when we know we have work, errands, school drop-offs, appointments, or busy schedules, it’s still hard not to picture them sitting at home waiting for us to come back.
And honestly, some dogs cope perfectly fine being home alone.
Others… not so much.
At Sydney Pet Sitting & Doggy Daycare, we meet a lot of dogs who simply seem happier once they become part of a regular daycare routine.
Not because they need non-stop chaos or constant entertainment — but because many dogs genuinely enjoy companionship, routine, enrichment, and being part of a social environment.
We often hear owners say things like:
“He follows me everywhere.”
“She gets so excited once she realises it’s daycare day.”
“He’s much calmer at night now.”
“She used to bark all afternoon.”
“He was chewing everything at home.”
And honestly, it makes sense.
Dogs are social animals. Some handle solitude well, while others become bored, frustrated, restless, or anxious spending long periods home alone.
A lot of people assume daycare is simply about tiring dogs out physically.
But one thing we’ve learnt over the years is that mental stimulation and social fulfilment are just as important.
Sometimes the dogs who benefit most from daycare aren’t the “crazy energetic” dogs.
Sometimes it’s the dogs who simply needed:
companionship
confidence
routine
enrichment
interaction
a change of environment
One of our favourite things about daycare is watching dogs settle into their routines over time.
Some dogs arrive sprinting through the gate excited to see their friends.
Others stroll in calmly, check where everybody is, then head straight toward their favourite sunny sleeping spot.
And some become very invested in enrichment time once they realise the Lyka comes out.
Those little routines and familiar experiences often help dogs feel secure and comfortable.
One thing we notice every day is how much calmer dogs become once enrichment starts.
Lick mats, sniffing games, enrichment toys, and fresh food activities naturally encourage dogs to slow down and focus.
We regularly use Lyka fresh food and treats throughout the day because the dogs genuinely love it, and enrichment becomes such a positive experience for them.
You can literally watch the energy of the group shift once everybody settles into enrichment time.
We’ve personally found many dogs settle much better in calmer, more carefully managed social groups rather than large chaotic environments.
Smaller groups allow us to:
properly supervise interactions
learn each dog’s personality
recognise when dogs need breaks
support nervous dogs more gently
create a calmer atmosphere overall
That’s a huge part of why we intentionally keep our environment more personalised and home-style.
At the end of the day, we want dogs to enjoy being here.
Not simply tolerate it.
That’s why our approach combines:
Fear Free® care
enrichment
calm socialisation
structured rest
fresh food activities using Lyka
lots of personal attention
Because we genuinely believe daycare should support dogs emotionally as well as physically.
